Småbakkan

Småbakkan is the main bouldering area on Kvaløya. It consists of endless granite boulders spread out on a large, very flat, area in the valley of Småbakkan, and its popularity has been increasing steadily. As on many other climbing areas on Kvaløya, Sjur Nesheim was the initiator when he practiced his skill on Sjursteinen in 1972. The area was rediscovered in the late 90'ies when Jørgen Drangfelt and Mårten Blixt began their exploring. Most problems are vertical to slightly overhanging, but there are some nice steep testpieces too. As in most glacier shaped landscapes, there are incredibly many boulders here, but the good boulders are relatively easy to identify.
Drive pass Blåmann, the main parking lot is just before the next sharp right turn, on your right. About 35 min from Tromsø.
Follow the path from the main parking lot straight up the valley, and you have all boulders by your feet within 5 to 30 min.
Sunny until late afternoon, and also in the evening on some boulders.
Crash pad, chalk and climbing shoes. For the huge boulders of Monster and Pimp a solid piece of confidence can come in handy.
